HORIZONS SEEKS CARE STAFF FOR NEW ROLES IN CORK
Horizons is seeking to expand its workforce to meet the organisation’s evolving services across Cork city and the surrounding areas.
In response to a significant expansion of Horizon’s services, a Recruitment Open Day will be held in the Metropole Hotel on Wednesday, November 19th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm.
We are a leading Cork-based organisation supporting people with an intellectual disability and additional needs such as autism or physical and medical conditions. We have been working alongside people to empower them to live a life of their choosing for almost 70 years.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the services the organisation delivers plus the training and promotional opportunities available to those interested in growing and advancing their careers in this field.
Care Assistants, Social Care Workers and Staff Nurse vacancies are available, in addition to Social Care Leaders and Clinical Nurse Managers, in the form of Person in Charge roles, which are vital to the organisation’s growing network of services.
Candidates will also have the chance to connect with many staff members and hear first-hand heart-warming and inspiring stories from those who have worked with Horizons for decades.
Liza Fitzgerald, Assistant Director of Nursing, has grown her career with the organisation over 36 years:
“Over the years, I’ve seen how much our services have grown and evolved, but one thing that hasn’t changed is our belief in the people we support. We’re not just supporting individuals; we’re walking beside them as they shape their own lives. That’s what keeps me inspired every single day.” Liza Fitzgerald, Assistant Director of Nursing
Jackie O’Leary works in Administration Support and has 43 years of service in Horizons:
“I started working in Horizons when I was 18 years old, I initially started out as a Clerk Typist. I then started working in Bonnington Training Centre, and I’m still here to this day. I love my job and have been very lucky to support people and their families; watching them grow from teens to adults and sharing their happiness, person centered achievements and successes. I love meeting new staff, everyone has such creative ideas, and I love trying new ways of doing things. I have made some lifelong friends and continue to make them.”
Lorraine Egan, CEO added:
“Horizons embodies our values of person-centredness, creativity, honesty and kindness. We are seeking passionate caring people who are motivated by making a real difference in people’s lives. We are continuing to expand through de-congregating from large settings to smaller community based homes, and from larger day services to community hubs, in addition to expanding our services to meet the growing need for services for people with disabilities across Cork city and county.
As the largest disability service provider in the south region we have unparalleled career progression opportunities for our staff. We mentor and support our staff to avail of all opportunities to meet their career goals alongside providing work life balance opportunities. This is evidenced by our Executive Management Team where three of the current four postholders are people who commenced in frontline positions in Horizons and have worked across the organisation culminating in their current posts at the most senior level of the organisation. We want to continue to ensure Horizons’ leadership comprises people who have worked directly with the people we support across all levels of our services.
For nursing and social care professionals we have an established course with MTU to support people to achieve management qualifications. For care assistants there are opportunities for training and progression into nursing and/or social care by way of the links we have developed with UCC and MTU. I am encouraging everyone to come along on the day and speak with us.”
