A New Chapter for Inclusion: The Opening of Clonakilty Community Hub

We were delighted to mark the official opening of the Clonakilty Community Hub.

Situated in the heart of Clonakilty, the Hub has been developed as a welcoming and inclusive space. It is designed to provide person-centred supports that empower individuals to make their own choices, influence decisions that affect their lives and actively participate in their communities.

“Your Life, Your Way”

At Horizons, our vision is Your Life, Your Way. The Clonakilty Hub is a strong reflection of this commitment in action. It offers opportunities for people to live fuller, more independent lives while remaining closely connected to their local community, families and friends.

This new Hub is part of the continued evolution of supports across West Cork. Built on meaningful partnerships with individuals, families and community stakeholders, it highlights what can be achieved when people work together with a shared purpose.

Denis Mulcahy, Regional Manager of Clonakilty Community Hub, spoke about the importance of this development:

“The opening of Horizons Clonakilty Hub marks an important step forward in the development of disability services for young adults in West Cork, aligned with the HSE’s New Directions policy. It represents far more than a new building, it reflects progress, vision, and a strong commitment to the future. Located at the heart of Clonakilty, the Hub enhances accessibility, strengthens community integration, and creates meaningful opportunities for participation. It supports young adults to transition into adult services within their own community, close to family and friends.”

Lorraine Egan, CEO of Horizons, also highlighted the importance of community-based supports:

“The Horizons Community Hubs offer young adults a wonderful opportunity to grow and develop independently in their own community which is hugely important for the individual themselves and is part of Horizons’ key focus in helping the people we support to live their own life in their own way. The Clonakilty Hub is a welcome addition to the services provided by Horizons in West Cork and I wish everyone involved the very best of luck for the future.”

Her words reinforce the organisation’s focus on empowering individuals and creating pathways for personal development, independence and community participation.

The opening of the Clonakilty Hub marks an exciting new chapter for Horizons and for the people we support in West Cork. It is a place where opportunities are created and individuals are empowered to shape their own futures.
