Volunteer Story

💛 Volunteer Story 💛

Isabelle has been volunteering in Roots UCC since Sept last year. This is what she said about her experience…

“Volunteering with Horizons at Roots Café since September 2025 has been one of the most rewarding parts of my week. Every Monday I get to support trainees with learning disabilities as they complete a 12‑week programme – and every week they amaze me with their skills, confidence, and independence.
Watching each person grow into customer service, handling transactions, and making genuinely great coffee has shown me just how powerful inclusive training programmes can be. Their progress has taught me so much about advocacy, teamwork, and the importance of creating real opportunities for people to thrive.
My role is only a small piece of the incredible work Horizons does, but it’s made me deeply appreciate the impact volunteers can have. This experience has strengthened my sense of community responsibility and made me more compassionate, mindful, and inspired.
Proud to be part of something that makes such a meaningful difference.”
